Two bases, with the flight between them in the middle: six nights in Rotorua and four in Nelson Bay, then a last night in Sydney before flying home.
Rotorua, New Zealand: A block of identical one-bedroom suites at a lodge just under a mile from the town center. Each suite has its own hot tub, patio and en-suite bathroom, and every unit is the same, so there is no better or worse room to be allocated.
Nelson Bay, Australia: Self-contained apartments at a resort arranged around a central lagoon pool, a few minutes' walk from the marina and the main street. Every apartment has its own kitchen and bathroom.
Sydney, Australia: One night in a city hotel for the last night, so that nobody has to leave Nelson Bay at four in the morning to make a flight. Every nonstop from Sydney to Los Angeles leaves between 10am and 11am, and the drive is two and a half hours.
Property names are confirmed to travelers before departure and may change if availability moves; the standard and location will not.
Los Angeles, CA: We'll stay in a standard, chain hotel such as a Hilton. (Only applies to those who have chosen the "Meet & Greet" option.)
