Parents Weekend November 2026

Join us for a long weekend designed for parents of neurodiverse young adults. November 5 – 8, 2026, in the Sonoma Valley.

Most of the parents coming to this weekend are raising young adults in the exact same place as yours.

Kids in their late teens or twenties who shut down when anything feels pressured. Kids who retreat to their room or their screens because it is the only place they feel any control. Kids who avoid school or work not out of laziness, but because the smallest expectation feels like a trap.

Kids who toggle between brilliance and paralysis, long periods of withdrawal, stalled transitions into adulthood, and daily battles with executive function that make even basic tasks overwhelming.

You will be surrounded by parents who are living the same loops, carrying the same fears, and navigating the same impossible contradictions. You will not have to explain a thing.

A Letter from Danny

For years, most of the parents coming to me have felt like they're living on an island. They love a kid who protects their autonomy with everything they've got. A kid who would rather let the world burn than hand over one inch of control. A kid who isn't defiant or careless, just exhausted from too many years of being managed or misunderstood. And every one of these parents has asked, in some form, the same quiet question: Is anyone else going through this?

This weekend exists because the answer is yes. You are not the only one raising a young adult who shuts down, avoids, resists, or retreats when pressure shows up. You are not the only one caught in loops that make no sense to outside observers. You are not the only one carrying fear, frustration, love, and confusion in the same breath. You are not the only one doing the emotional heavy lifting with no real place to put it down.

So we're creating that place. A few days on a two-acre estate in the Sonoma Valley, with the vines turning gold and the harvest just finished. Space to breathe. Long evenings by the fire with nothing asked of you. A long slow morning with coffee and low autumn sunlight coming through the windows. Conversations that feel like exhaling. Parents who don't need the backstory because they've lived their own version of it. No judgment. No pressure to perform. No need to defend your parenting. Just soft ground.

There will be time together and time apart. Wine in the evenings, half an hour from where it was made. Quiet corners to decompress. Laughter that comes easily because you're finally with people who understand the absurdity and heartbreak and brilliance of raising a kid whose agency is the hill they're willing to die on. It's not a seminar. It's not a workshop. It's a gathering. A long weekend where your nervous system finally gets to drop. A chance to remember what it feels like to be supported by people who get it.

Not because they read it in a book. Because they live it too.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about the weekend

The Weekend

Who is this for?

Parents of neurodiverse young adults — typically in their late teens or twenties. Everyone in the house is raising a young adult in roughly the same place as yours, which means nobody has to start from the beginning when they talk.

Do our children come?

No. This is adults only. The whole point is a few days where you are not the one anticipating, organising or managing anything.

Is this a support group?

Not in the formal sense. There is no curriculum, no assessment and no homework, and nobody is being fixed. Danny will share what he is actually working on, and the real conversation tends to happen because a group of people who understand each other are in the same living room — not because it is item three on a schedule.

Do I have to talk about my family?

Only if you want to. Some people arrive ready to say everything and some spend the first day quiet by the fire. Both are entirely normal and neither is a problem.

What is the schedule like?

Deliberately loose. There are things happening, and there is a great deal of time where nothing is required of you. Over-scheduling would defeat the object.

Does my child need a diagnosis?

No. Many of the young adults whose parents come to us are diagnosed, many are not, and several are somewhere in the middle of a long process. It makes no difference here.

The House & Getting There

Where exactly is it?

A private estate in Kenwood, in the Sonoma Valley. Roughly an hour north of San Francisco, twenty minutes from Santa Rosa, and about ninety minutes from either San Francisco or Oakland airports. Sonoma County has its own airport at Santa Rosa (STS), which is closer still.

What are the sleeping arrangements?

Every couple has their own private bedroom. The house has ten bedrooms and seven bathrooms across two acres, along with a pool, a hot tub, a fire pit and a good deal of outdoor space.

Do I need to hire a car?

We would recommend it. Flights and ground transport are not included, and having your own car means you can come and go as you please rather than moving as a group.

Can I come without my partner?

Pricing is per couple, but plenty of people are managing this alone or with a partner who cannot travel. Get in touch and we will sort something out.

What about food and drink?

All meals and beverages are included, along with dinners out in the valley. Tell us about any dietary requirements when you book and we will plan around them. There is wine, this being Sonoma, and absolutely no expectation that you drink it.

Booking

How do I reserve a place?

A 50% deposit of $2,125 secures your place, with the balance of $2,125 due 22 August. There are ten places and we do not add more. Book here.

What if I need to cancel?

The deposit is non-refundable, and the balance is due 22 August. Cancel after that and we retain the payment but issue a credit toward a future WanderRock trip, valid two years. You can also hand your place to another couple at any time, at no charge. Full detail in the booking terms.

Do I need travel insurance?

We strongly recommend it. It is inexpensive and covers you for the sort of thing nobody plans for.
